Lydd Final Round 2009

We have been very lucky this season with the weather but not this meeting with strong winds and horizontal rain made for a tarmac only meeting.

George Clements wanted to set a first for the club and himself with a 100% record of wins over the season but with poor weather conditions and mechanical problems in race one he could only manage second (never mind George it is still a record and an impressive one at that) Rob McNealy took honours in race one with the ever present duo of Benn Robb and Ryan Dixon hard on their heels. Race two saw George back out in front with Rob chasing, the duo of Ryan and Benn was broken when Benn came off and Simon Ovenden didn’t need a invitation to take the fourth spot, Benn came in fifth with Lewis Cornish closing in on Benn in sixth. Race three George was once again out in front but this time it was Rob suffering with mechanical problems forcing him to retire early, Ryan and Benn were again the chasing duo with Simon and Lewis fighting for the fourth position and the ever present Paul Angear taking the sixth placing.

Inters was dominated by Farley Ovenden who racked up a hat-trick of wins with Aussie Ryan Martin finding the British weather to his likening coming away with second overall, Richard Langrish had a disappointing first race but made it up in Race two with a third and a second in the final race of the day gave him a well deserved overall victory in the championship. Brian and Paul Harris were trading places all day and with John Gilbody, Al Born and Dave Blanks waiting to pounce made for some wet but entertaining racing.

It was any of three riders fighting for the top podium place in Novice new to the club Rod Philips took race one with Mark Rigden second and Matt Dix third race two saw Matt secure the lead,  Mark retained second and Rod third, Stewart Scarlet moved up to fourth with Paul James and Steve Coombes always in the frame waiting for any of them to make a mistake. With Matt taking victory in race three secured him overall victory on the day, Rod second and Mark third.

Justin Bateman made the 250 class his own with three straight victory’s  Joe Collier on a 150cc machine  took two seconds from Robert Hartley and with the return of Owen Connell and Mike Ford we were treated to some close racing all down the field.

The youth class was again dominated by Joe Collier (I am sure he will be a star for the future) with poor weather conditions he still managed to put on a breath taking show, not even a slipping clutch in race two and three saw him loose the lead, George Tilbury, Matt Tilbury and Meg Berry all persevered in the wet conditions to finish in that order.

With the end of the season now upon us we would like to thank all the riders and officials who have supported us this year and hope to see you all in 2010. Dates will be posted on the web-site soon for the forthcoming season. Once again many thanks Steve & Jan.
